I was green with envy as Helen Dunmore described how free Sapphy felt in the water and I wished that I could swim in the cool waters as well. Sapphy and Connor feel as if their new Mer friends know something about their father's disappearence, but why won't they tell them. This starts a chain of events that lead Sapphy and her brother, Connor to discover something they only believed to be real in fairy tales, Mer people. Sapphire doesn't believe her father is dead when one night, he suddenly disappears into the ocean.
